My leadership journey: Meet Eirik!

Eirik Friise, Head of ERP, had heard rumours about the special Visma culture. He’d also spent too many hours working in business software not tailored to his needs, and wanted to change that. So, he joined Visma.

In this mini series of blog articles, you’ll get to know some of our leaders who have graduated from the Visma Management Academy (VMA). Every year, 100 of our top leadership talents take part in the programme.

Who, what, where:

Eirik Friise (34) works at Visma Software, a Norwegian Visma company. Since joining in 2019, he’s served the roles as Team Manager in Business Operations and Department Manager in Customer Service. Now, he’s the Head of ERP. Previously working in the Norwegian Defence, he’s got 12 years of leadership experience.

Hi, Eirik! Why did you join Visma, and what do you do in your role?

“I joined because I had heard about the special Visma culture. I had also spent many unnecessary working hours in business software that wasn’t tailored to my needs. I want to help others avoid that! Today, I manage six teams. Together, we ensure customer success in our products, and build competence on our products among our partners. My plan is to keep working with enthusiasm and take on every new challenge.”

Why do you think you were nominated to the VMA?

“I think it’s because I have a DNA that matches Visma’s values. I also hope I was nominated because they believe I have an opportunity to further develop as a leader at Visma. I’ll be humble and proud if I, in the future, will be able to lead a company at Visma!”

“I suppose the principles of leadership are the same, no matter what you do or where you come from: you must succeed with your tasks and take care of your colleagues.”

What were three things you learned?

“I learned a lot of new things about Visma’s strategy in regards to financial management, M&As, building strategies, technology, and leadership. I also learned a lot about how we develop and secure our products, as well as how my behaviour is perceived when interacting with others. I suppose the principles of leadership are the same, no matter what you do or where you come from: you must succeed with your tasks and take care of your colleagues.”

What surprised you the most?

“I wouldn’t say I was surprised, but rather extremely impressed by the level of talent in the VMA group. It was super inspiring to gain insight to their reflections and argumentation on complex issues. Having an arena to network and meet top talent from Visma companies across Europe was really inspiring. It makes me confident that Visma is the place to be, and that I’m on the right path. Our culture, our people, and our business opportunities are unique!”
