As most of the IT sector, Visma experienced a generally difficult software market, but the market for professional consulting remained strong. The management of Visma has tried to adjust expenses to market conditions, and has thus achieved more satisfactory profit margins than other companies in the peer group. Still, the company has not reduced spending on R&D, and several new products are to be introduced to the market in the second half of 2000.

The Marine division increased net sales by 19%, and the Business division increased net sales by 35%.

A general improvement in the software market is expected in the second half of 2000. In particular, the shipping market is moving in a very positive direction with very high rates, and increasing capacity for investments in IT.
