The students in the Mentorship Program

The UX Student Mentorship Program – Update

As we have reported in a previous blog post, Visma Commerce and Visma Corporate UX is a proud partner in the Cognitive Science Mentorship Program, run by Linköpings University. We will be working together with a group of five students during two years. This spring, the students have carried out a project focused on the OPUS system. Read about the experience in the students’ own words!

Get to know the user and the system

We are five cognitive scientist students at Linköping University: Ellen Andersson, Rikard Karlsson, Linn Olsson, Elin Sjöström and Alice Walden. This spring, we have had the possibility to do a research project at Visma Commerce in Linköping.  We have had our work base at a meeting room at the Visma office to easier have access to the company and the people involved. Together with stakeholders within Visma, we decided to do our project on the Production team and their work in the OPUS system.

We started with a week of contextual interviews to learn how the users work and interact with the different systems.

We started with a week of contextual interviews to learn how the users work and interact with the different systems. We also did video recordings of the computer screens and the users when they worked, which we analysed by watching it over again. From this video analysis we made a sequence model and pointed out problems in the work process. Furthermore, to get the users’ view and opinions about OPUS, we held two workshops with some of the users from the Production.

By analyzing the data from the different parts of the project, we gathered insights which we wrote down in a final report. The reports discusses the identified problems in the system and suggests improvements.

The results were presented at the University for the course examinors and fellow students. In addition, a presentation was held at Visma Commerce.

We will happily be back in autumn to continue the cooperation with Visma!

Beside the project we were also happy to participate in the Visma UX-day in Stockholm. It was very educating and exciting to be able to listen to different speakers in the UX-area and also be able to talk to UX-designers and others involved in Visma Commerce.

We will happily be back in autumn to continue the cooperation with Visma, this time to continue the project with the Production and possibly make a prototype from the improvement proposals.
