Visma Marine ASA enters into agreement

Visma and British Telecom cooperate in e-mail for shipping and mobile users.

Visma Marine ASA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Visma ASA, has today signed a letter of intent regarding the supply of AMOS Mail software to British Telecom Aeronautical & Maritime (BT). The software will be used in BT's Integrated Communication and Information Service (ICIS) for e-mail services to maritime and land-based mobile users, and BT will market AMOS through its sales network as an integrated part of the service. The agreement is expected to strengthen Visma Marine ASAs position as a supplier of software for electronic mail on a global basis.

AMOS Mail is especially suitable for mobile users communicating via satellite or GSM. AMOS Mail provides Internet mail access for these users.
BT will establish an e-mail centre operating from their Inmarsat earth station in Goonhilly, England. The centre will be used as a base for offering Internet, e-mail, fax/telex and information services, such as news and weather forecasts to maritime and mobile users. BT will manage the centre, link up the communications infrastructure and provide customer service round the clock.

VISMA Marine ASA will supply its AMOS Mail software to the e-mail centre and to users of the mobile services. The agreement also covers the supply of services (installation and training) related to maritime installations, as well as resale of the ICIS concept.

Thomas Falck, managing director of VISMA Marine ASA, comments, "BT's choice of supplier and service partner clearly reinforces our position as the leading supplier of specialized maritime software, and we look forward to serving this market with the combined strength of our respective organizations."

ystein Moan, CEO of Visma ASA, states: "Through several thousand successful installations in the maritime environment, AMOS Mail has proved itself as an optimal mail system for mobile stations with limited bandwidth available. The partnership with BT can open new opportunities both in the maritime market and in the general GSM market as far as e-mail connection to the Internet is concerned."
