Vasaloppet kicks off the Visma Nordic Trophy competition
Friday, March 2, 2018
Vasaloppet is the first race out in the Visma Nordic Trophy competition – the final four races of the Visma Ski Classics tour – leading up to the exciting final in Ylläs-Levi.
Visma Ski Classics is one of the world's toughest ski challenges, and Vasaloppet, running 90 kilometres from Sälen to Mora in the Swedish midlands, is the longest track in the competition.
The Visma Nordic trophy was a success when it was introduced as an element to enhance the competition for the final stage of the tour last year. This year, the skiers collecting the most championship points in Vasaloppet, Birkebeinerrennet, Reistadløpet and Ylläs-Levi, are awarded the trophy and EUR 5,000 in prize money.
Excitement towards the finish line
Last month, the new Visma Alp Trophy brought the first part of the Visma Ski Classics tour to a thrilling final in Toblach-Cortina. The audience now awaits to see if the winners, Tord Asle Gjerdalen and Britta Norgren-Johansson, will manage to uphold their winning streak and walk off with the Visma Nordic Trophy as well.
– The final four races all take place in the Nordics where cross-country skiing is one of the most popular sports. We look forward to seeing the athletes competing for a trophy that requires them to push themselves to the limit and beyond, showing not only strength and resilience but character and team spirit. These are values that we in Visma identify with and believe in, said CEO of Visma, Øystein Moan.
Moan believes we're in for an exciting second stage of the Visma Ski Classics tour, and applauds the efforts of the skiers, but also Visma's involvement in the events.
– The tour has brought on a wave of positive internal engagement, and we are excited to see so many of our employees, partners and clients participating in the races and coming together in fellowship and sportsmanship.
Both the Visma Alp Trophy and the Visma Nordic Trophy will be awarded after the Visma Ski Classics final race in Ylläs-Levi, Finland April 14th.
