Why listening is the most important part of solving for the future

Life at Visma

Meet Sol Rasmussen, Commercial Manager at Visma Software Nordic - a Visma company and one of the region’s leading suppliers of financial and payroll systems for medium-sized and large companies. Guided by a commitment to structure and a deep focus on customer needs, Sol finds that professional growth stems from a unique combination of traits: the courage to be decisive and the wisdom to remain humble.

For Sol, bridging the lessons of life and work is essential. Whether she is handling a 700kg animal or organising complex business processes, she carries her equestrian insights into her professional life - blending resilience with empathy to put the customer first.

Finding the "reset" in the stables

It is not easy to take your horse to work, which is why Sol’s days often begin and end with a walk. This transition between worlds is vital. Whether it’s doing chores or simply being in nature, the physical work of the stables is where she is at her best.

– It’s the feeling of working with your body and just closing off and being in the moment, Sol says.

This ability to "reset" allows her to bring a unique perspective back to the office – one where handling a horse has taught her more about leadership than any textbook could.

Decisiveness meets humility

Horses have taught Sol strength, balance, and humility. Handling a large animal requires a specific mindset: you must be firm but fair. Sol has found that this exact balance is what makes a great leader in business.

– I think a lot of what I have gained from riding I bring with me into my work life. To be able to be decisive when needed, and also be humble when needed, Sol says.

Putting the focus where it belongs

In a world of constant digital development, Sol’s priority is always clear: the customer. Whether in her previous role as a Product Owner or her current position as Commercial Manager, she knows that progress requires silence.

– It is really important to be able to be quiet when listening to customers. Because customers should be the focus. Absolutely, Sol says.

By prioritising the user’s voice, she ensures that every process serves a real-world purpose.

A small family with global support

One of the most compelling aspects of Sol’s journey at Visma is the environment in which she operates. She highlights a dynamic that many professionals seek; the feeling of a small, agile team backed by the resources of a market leader.

– Even though we are part of such a large company, you can create this familiar feeling. We become our own little family, but with the support of a strong and stable company behind us. It is an incredible advantage, Sol says.

This sense of belonging is especially felt within the team behind Transpa – the product area Sol manages as a key part of the wider Visma Software Nordic business line.

Entrepreneurial freedom and shared standards

This sense of belonging is central to life at Visma Software Nordic. Like all companies within Visma, they operate with entrepreneurial freedom, allowing the team to stay dedicated to their customers' specific needs while being backed by a powerful corporate muscle. It is a model where shared standards in security and technology meet the portfolio effect of a global network, creating a home where great companies become exceptional.

The courage to figure it out

Sol’s philosophy is a direct reflection of Visma’s entrepreneurial value. It is about the drive to take ownership and the grit to move forward, even when the path ahead isn’t fully mapped out. In the stables, you have to be the "tough chick" who handles a 700kg challenge with confidence; at work, Sol applies that same entrepreneurial spirit to complex business problems.

– You take that with you into working life... because well, you figure it out, Sol says.
