Visma’s Sustainability Month: Small Actions, Shared Impact
In May 2025, Visma proudly hosted its second Sustainability Month, an initiative to increase awareness and action around integrating sustainability into our business operations. Our goal was to educate, engage, and inspire our colleagues on this topic, not only in a general context but also in relation to our core business functions.
Spotlight on Software and Sustainability
This month featured a diverse range of activities and educational content centred around four key themes: reducing our ecological footprint, promoting health, and making a positive impact. We placed a particular emphasis on the intersection of software and sustainability, offering:
- Insights into low-emission, cost-effective public cloud usage techniques.
- Discussions on how sustainability integrates with our software, highlighting possible collaborations and use cases.
- An informative article setting the stage for conversations on sustainable AI usage.
- Green coding courses.
We were also privileged to have speakers from our major cloud providers - Google, Microsoft, AWS, and OVHcloud. They showcased their investments in renewable energy, efficient hardware, sustainable data centre construction, and innovative water-cooling systems. Despite AI's energy demands, these sessions revealed significant advancements in efficiency across hardware and software.
Our efforts were met with enthusiastic feedback from participating colleagues, “The software week was great! I think we should focus on subjects like these, close to our business.”
A Broader Perspective
Beyond software, we explored sustainability in office life with activities such as:
- Cycle to Work Week
- A fundraising run in support of UNICEF
- A declutter challenge
- Tips for maintaining a healthy office lifestyle
- A vegetarian recipe book featuring our favorite dishes, and
- A webinar on “Social Value as a Driver for Company Success”
- Webinars exploring renewable energy solutions for all offices
Robin Åkerberg, Visma's Head of Sustainability, explained sustainability's relevance to the Group’s strategic goals in the podcast “Sustainability at the heart of business”.
Engagement Milestones
Participation levels in the Sustainability Month challenge, facilitated by Ducky, doubled from the previous year. A remarkable 933 colleagues logged over 43,000 sustainable actions, such as reducing plastic container use, turning off unused lights, cutting back on dairy consumption, and opting to work from home. Additionally, our 18 articles received 8,367 views and 286 likes, reflecting widespread engagement.
For many, these initiatives struck a chord, as echoed by the sentiment: “I hope that more colleagues become aware of sustainability. Sustainability Month is a good initiative to improve that.”
Concluding Thoughts
Visma’s Sustainability Month 2025 underscores our team’s ongoing commitment to help our companies embed sustainability into the fabric of their operations. Whether through advancing greener software development, fostering healthier lifestyles, or driving social impact, we are dedicated to bringing our employees together to forge real change. We still have a long way to go, but by improving engagement through a spectrum of meaningful activities, we've laid the groundwork for more ambitious sustainability endeavours in the future.
